how jot handles your data
Jot is a lightweight markdown publishing service. This page describes what we collect and how we handle it.
What we collect
- Account data: your email, an optional handle, display name, and bio.
- Content: markdown notes you publish and any media you upload.
- Activity: sign-in and publishing events, with the requesting IP address and user-agent, used for security and abuse prevention.
- Anonymous pastes: markdown submitted without an account is stored alongside the originating IP and auto-expires (24 hours by default, 7 days maximum).
How we store it
Your data lives in a secure, private environment under our control. Passwords are hashed. We do not sell, rent, or share user data with third parties for marketing.
Service providers
- Email delivery for login codes.
- A DNS and edge network provider that fronts the service (TLS, DDoS protection, optional custom-domain routing).
These providers receive only what they need to deliver the service.
Your rights
- Delete your account at any time — this removes your notes, media, keys, custom domains, and account record.
- Export your data as a downloadable archive of your notes, media, and profile.
- Reach out at [email protected] if any of the above is not yet self-serve or if you want a manual action.
